This was almost the biggest news to come out of the U.K. today. The BBC has announced plans to adapt J.K. Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy as a television series. The new show will air in 2014, with the number and length of the episodes “to be decided once the creative adaptation process has formally begun.” Rowling will be a close collaborator on the project, which will be produced by an independent production company. Rowling said, “I always felt that, if it were to be adapted, this novel was best suited to television, and I think the BBC is the perfect home.”
