Statistically speaking, flying is still the safest way to travel. LaGuardia Airport’s runway is back in business Tuesday after being shut down after a Southwest jet’s nose gear collapsed on landing, injuring 10. When the landing gear failed, the jet skidded across the runway on its nose and came to a stop in the grass. A passenger said she felt a “strong jolt” when the nose hit the ground. “It was just a bang and a bounce, and then a slam of the brakes,” she told CNN. Another passenger said the situation was chaotic, and that all the cell phones, iPads, books, and drinks went flying forward in the plane.
