Russian hackers exploited a bug in Microsoft Windows and other software to spy on computers used by NATO, the European Union, Ukraine, and companies in the energy and telecommunications industries, the intelligence firm iSight Partners says. The company says the cyberespionage campaign has been going on for five years, but says it is not clear what data the hackers found, although they may have been seeking information about the Ukraine crisis as well as diplomatic, energy, and telecom issues. ISight says that in August the hackers began to exploit a vulnerability found in most versions of Windows. A Microsoft spokesman said the compnay plans to roll out an automatic update to affected versions of Windows on Tuesday.
