South Korean prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for the captain of a ferry that sank in April, leaving more than 300 passengers dead. Lee Joon-Seok was indicted on homicide charges, along with three other top crew members for negligence and failure to protect passengers. Eleven other lower-ranking crew members are also on trial. They were all among the first rescued from the boat as it sank. South Korea allows the death penalty, but it hasn’t actually used it in nearly 20 years.
